in other words it is really hard to turn where the normal diff will spin quite freely.

At least now it makes sense that if you just jack up one side and the car is not in gear an open diff will turn quite freely with very little resistance....right

VLSD and CLSD will not turn or will turn with some resistance....right

seriously the propshaft will be locked but you will have only the diff working. hence the non viscous gear diff will just spin internally with no brake but the viscous diff will try to brake the effect (slip).

(dont try this at home) - if you jack up one wheel and start the engine and engage a gear and it does not pull off the jack then you have a normal diff...   if it does go to hospital and you have a LSD...

Visuals of the difference

Normal z31 diff:open

Mine:sepposedly LSD

Now the question beggs....why would someone put a diff cooler cover of an LSD on an open diff?

to cool it down???

i agree with sokar's test! it rocks the neighbourhood!

but if you have to do it the girlpantz way then please jack up both sides of the rear end!

What did they do with the LSD?(why would they take the cover off a LSD and not just replace the diff)

Why would an open diff need cooling?

mashing gears covered in oil get hot. keeping it cool is not a bad idea!

is there any evidence that its been opened?

do the test man - either do a burnout/donut and look for 2 stripes, or jack up the rear and make sure the wheels turn in the same direction!

Burn out or do nut is not an obtion at the moment....left rear wheel bearing is on it's whay out.....

As soon as I have my jack back the car will go up for the check.

yeah sorry, should have put a comment  what i meant was EVERY source says the finned covered diffs are lsd, so that must simply mean you have a lsd .. nuff said 8)
