you sure that bottom cover plate is not bent somehow? i've also had that issue before!

if it were me, i would only be 100% if i could see the bottom sprocket, but thats a big mission!

I get what your saying and I do agree but I know the timing mark on the Crank pulley and sprocket are correct, I have manual checked them and checked the reference with the pulley on and the sprocket lined up.

I really think its something with the cams, I mean I have done timing on the CA18 about 30 times and I have never had this shit.

But unrelated I am looking over the logged data and there is some interesting stuff here

So the CAS spline is advanced in the exhaust cam, could this possibly be to allow you to retard the exhaust cam with a vernier pulley and still have some adjustment on the CAS? But it doesn't make sense that the CAS is outside of its normal range with the cam set to standard.

To me it sounds like a manufacturing issue with the cam, it may not have been indexed correctly when the CAS spline was formed.

Perhaps a custom CAS mount is required? One that does away with the front cover. ;)

Exactly what I was thinking but why would an amazing company like tomei make such a basic mistake, But anyway I got the CAS to 15 Degrees on the stock cover. The lowest number it can go now is 10 Degrees fully retarded, 15 is just off the stopper .

But for sure the spline is not in the same place as the stock exhaust cam

OK let me start from the top, Idle Vacuum has increased from .48 bar to .54 bar, My Idle speed has increase to 1100RPm this was set back down to 900Rpm

Car starts easier possible increased compression? At Idle the MAF voltage has increase my low and midrange are leaner my top is also leaner and peak boost voltage MAF voltage has increased I need to resize my charts.

Also I have a strange feeling the exhaust flow characteristics have changed my cars doesn’t sound the same

So how did you get the timing down to 10 degrees now when you couldnt earlier??

So basically it sounds as if your engine is now flowing more air, out of interest, is your boost level stiil the same, increased, or decreased?

Easier starting I would think is easier because of a reduced dynamic compression ratio. High comp na motors normally struggle to turn over.

Howzit, Sorry took my boss for a spin, left the cam timing and used my spare CAS that is off by a tooth

To be honest I havnt really looked, When I do the run home I will check

It can go both ways, Low comp will also cause hard starting look at a rotor but its normally very high 12 -15.1 comps that have a hard time starting and its normally the starter pulling to many amps and not getting enough rotation the easiest will be to do a comp test when I get a chance I will do this also would like to pull the plugs now

HUH, how can your spare CAS be out by a tooth??

Its a long story, About a damaged CAS that has found a home

Please tell me, I have lots of CAS's laying around and non of them are 1 tooth out, I have stripped loads aswell and there is no way to get them wrong.

this is just a thought, but you did make sure you bought the real deal, you will fall on your back to see what the chinese are making pirate copies of these days.. and a mismatched locating pin is just the sort of shit they are famous for..
