Guess when racing that day he found that the brake fluid was boiling and then you need to upgrade your brake fluid "strength" if I can call it that?

Am I missing the plot here?

If you are looking for dot 5 barke fluid, make sure to get the dot 5.1 fluid and not the dot 5 silicone based stuff. The silicone based fluid is mainly suited for pure racing use and needs to be changed often.

I'm not too sure where you can find dot 5.1. I've seen some at my local midas but only in a few tiny little bottles.

VC the cap on the bottle says that because in 91 they only made DOT 3 and they didnt want you to use DOT 2.

DOT 5.1 is not a racing fluid and does not need to be replaced often. Most of your new cars will use DOT 5.1, it has a higher boiling point. I know you get brake oil instead of fluid but it is DAMN expensive, but it never boils or need replacing.

You can get the Motul Dot5.1 from Perry Yamaha, or any Yamaha bike shop I reckon, apparently its specced for use in the R1.

Only comes in 500ml bottles and it was about R120 a bottle iirc.

I flushed my focus's brakes a year or so ago with this and used just over two bottles to fully flush the system. It has stood up to a few track days since then. The old fluid felt a bit mushy after a couple of laps around the A1 circuit.

The motul RBF600 or 660 is one step up from the 5.1 but is much more expensive and not really required in my opinion.
