Oh yeah I'm taking orders for S13 parts already:

fender linings
front valence (VC you can actually fix up that S13 that hugged the tree with all these parts)
All CA parts, radiator, etc etc.

All I can say is - YOU SNOOZE YOU LOOSE....
Yes, that is the motor I stole out from Riekert's nose.
It was a huge gamble. The headgasket had gone on the car, right after a rebuild. So I didnt know what was wrong on it.
When it was stripped it was in top condition, except the cams wasnt that great.
So I was lucky and got a sweet deal. Just keep your eyes open and make sure you got your cash at hand, cause money talks!

Rolling Thunder..........
Who's got a 220wkw CA18DET? I want a spin?
I suspect even 200wkw in a s-chassis is quicker than most people think.
If I rebuilt the motor with stock pistons (ceramic coated), flowed the head decently, upgraded springs and cams and a GT2860 or GT2781R turbo, will the bottom end hold 220wkw?
I hear the CA rods are quite strong. Should they be shot peened?
Right now I've narrowed it down to a CA or the SR. For the money I wanna spend, I can possibly have a fairly strong CA, that's operating at 90% of it's limit, but reliably.
Or I could have a lucky packet (aka import) SR20, with more potential, but will end up being stock for the same money, or costing more in the end to get the power up to the 220wkw+ mark.

I hear you mario. And yes SR motors are easy to work on and mod for the most part.mario_200sx wrote:Nissan conrods is very strong! One of the best OEM parts on any of the cars around!
I am all for the CA18DET, its a very nice motor!
However, the mods you need to get there is a hell of alot! Where with the SR20 its allot easier to reach.....
I guess the debate lies around the intial outlay to buy a stock SR20 and to do the swap, vs putting that money into the CA mods.
The logical thing for me to do is to decide what my goal will be with the car, and then work backwards, calculate approximate costs, and then the decision will reveal itself.
But it's all good and well to say I want a X-horsepower car, but I think I need to experience a 200wkw CA18 to know if that's my goal. I think CA's have a ceiling of about 250wkw if you want it to still be reliable.
SR20's, I believe has a ceiling of about 300wkw. (I'm not talking absolute power, but reliable power)
How often will the extra 50wkw be used? Needed even?
And lets look at Riaan's old s14. It took over R40k to get it to do a reliable 250wkw. So SR's aren't THAT cheap to mod either.

Yeah that was well said!
(I vaguely remember a while ago 2 guys gunning for the same motor, and then one kinda buying it out from under the other guys nose. Was that Mario? LOL. If so, that's not what I was playing at...)
