Project RB26 S14 Cape Town

Post by Reyn S »

Okay I know it’s a bit late for a build thread now but here goes.
Some background on the car...

Image

This was LJS14’s car. My buddy bought it, drove it for 6 months and then I swapped him a V8 Willys Jeep for it.

Image

The car was stripped of its motor.

Image

And sold to my buddy. (The build is under THE MONSTER)

Image

Image

The car was standing for about a year with no heart and then I got this.......

Image

So the build started. My intention with this build was to keep it looking standard in the engine bay and running it with a standard computer and with all functions working 100% like aircon, ABS and so on. I wanted it reliable and to be used as a daily. With all this in mind I would also want to boost it from time to time. So I got APEXI controller with cometic gasket set, ARP headbolts and with the motor came two GTR34 twin ball bearing steel turbos.
Starting to disassemble the engine...

Image

Image

After taking off the head I found all the exhaust valves bent. The head was sent to Steve at NO SWEAT for repairs.
The engine bay was striped completely and I planned to spray the engine bay the same colour as the car.
Before...

Image

After...

Image

Now to start making engine and gearbox mountings...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

The head came back from Steve who did an awesome job!

Image

Some parts arrived which was ordered off EBay...

Image

Test-fit Radiator to check clearances for viscous fan.

Image

Image

Engine mountings done. Just some welding left to do.

Image

Cut crank for crank collar mod.

Every bolt and nut was sent away for yellow plating.

Image

Starting to assemble the motor.
Sub was sent for honing and measurements were taken to make sure it was still in spec.

All engine components were stripped completely so all aluminium parts could be removed and glass bead shotblasted to get that new look.
Before...

Image

After...

Image

The car was sent to get the engine bay sprayed.

Image

Image

Holes were cut for the boost pipes.

Image

Finishing up the motor and the box.

Prepping the car to fit the motor.

Image

Image

Image

The mountings were poxy coated thanks to Kyle (Thanks buddy!)
The engine and gearbox mountings were polyethylened 60%.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Thanks to RB25SX for the ABS, bracket and APEXI Power FC.

Image

Fitting ABS, brake booster and clutch master cylinder to make up brake lines.

Image

Image

The car was sent to get the brake lines made-up.

Image

Image

Image

Motor and box ready to go in.

Image

Image

Image

A Nissan R33 Skyline viscous fan shroud was ordered. Some modifications were made to fit the radiator.

Image

Cutting the fan to fit.

Image

Test-fitted everything to make sure everything is going to fit.

Image

Image

Some pics of under the car.

Image

Image

Image

Some mountings still needs to get poxy coated.
Okay, so this is where I am at the moment. I still need to do the wiring for the ABS and window washer. Also some brackets still has to be made for the window washer bottle, as this was previously removed. I also have to go through the wiring as a lot was changed to work with the dictator that the car was fitted with. Boost pipes, induction, propshaft and exhaust still need to be done. I am also waiting on an engine harness from Chase Bays.

I will try and keep you guys up to date as I go on. I will hopefully have a lot of time on my hands this holidays.
