Hi Guys
Just another small update, I picked up shit with the 63mm downpipe hit everything under the car when driving making a horrible noise because of a crap installation.
So I had the down pipe swapped out for a 76mm unit, The previous exhaust place made a mess of the flange between downpipe and Turbo elbow after fixing this boost is allot more steady but still drops off in the higher RPM band
Also , I am turning down the boost to 0,7 bar , It all fine and well to have the power but if you cant put it down then whats the point the car is allot more enjoyable on 0,7 bar , I atleast have traction in second on full boost

I also want to start shedding weight on the car to both save the box and help with fuel economy, i think my Calypso’s will be up for sale soon want to get something lighter

Hi Guys and Girls, Did the battery relocation this weeked was a 3 hour job and cost R250
Also cleanned up the intake piping and fitted a velocity stack
But sadly this weekend my Turbo started showing a big issue, It looks like one of the bearings have failied.
It started make a noice at idle and shutdown, But no sound on boost and no presure drop , Time to buy slightly bigger and new.

Well the unit completely failed on Monday this week, No boost just one hell of a noise.
Strange part is it didn’t seize but it f*cked.
So I bought Grimmy GT2871 Replica , This thing is going to be a Mission to fit , I will need to grind the block no matter what manifold I use (W10 or GTI-R)
Had a good look at the build quality , Look it’s no Garret but R10036 for the same real unit from turbo direct is insane. Paid way less the half for this one
You can see where they went cheap link the housings but I’m going to try and limit the risks but using the Garret exhaust housings, I have spare and a few other parts the unit was balanced can see the balancing grinds but it’s a journal unit sadly.

Well Guys, I started fitting the Knock off GT2871r, All I can say is who ever said this is straight drop in you should smack in the face.
No matter what manifold you use, you will need to grind the block, the GTI-R manifold means you have to grind at the gearbox, The W10 means you have to grind at the water channels.
I used my W10 Manifold and grind-ed both the turbo and the Block, You have to make the wastgate work, The 76mm intake leaves no space for the water pipe passed the fans.
The Fans have to be cut,The Hot pipe needed to be cut the crank chase breather pipe needed to be modified
It one of the worst fitments I have ever done, Its TOTALLY Shit
The Car Started this evening, But the exhaust gasket is leaking

Well drove the car to work today , First off the China GT2871r is not ball bearing but a normal journal bearing, Spool is insane full boost is only seen at around 4600RPM,
All the tunning is out, I think the much bigger 76mm intake , larger turbine wheel , and inlet housing messed everything up.
Power on boost seems lower then with the hybrid but let me fix my tune add timming to help spool and pull some timming in boost.

OK Guys.
The new Turbo is (Drum roll please......) a GT2876R with a 0.84 Exhaust Housing .
I really got the turbo for a great price, Its brand New straight out the box, Paid half of what you would pay normally.
Only catch was the Compressor housing had Pipes welded directly on but there was no way the .70 A\R compressor was going to fit a FWD SR20DET unless you want to grind the block and weld up all the water leaks.

The sad part with GT2876R is the turbo with a bit of a miss match , The compressor is way too big for the turbine and so it’s a little laggy and known to boost creep.

They say with he 0.84 housing , I will be on full song at around 4500RPM to be honest, I’m happy with this, Late boost saves gearbox's , Plus I’m still itching to fit a VE head so this will be a better match then a 0.64 housing counterpart but wont be as much fun on the road.

Evening Guys.
OK so the pistons left the block on Saturday, I can tell you it was Allot easier then I expected, Takes around 5 hours, Took me longer to replace the oil pump anyway back to the pistons.
I am really surprised, Every pistons looks great, See pictures below but this is a major issue, if my oil control rings arnt stuck, WTF is causing the smoke.
I really don't know any more.

So The head is on, I have checked cam timing, Everything checks out.
I have confirmed compression on all the cylinders be it low but I was hand cranking.
She would have been started but my battery is completely drained so she is on charge now

Apexi Power Filter (Knock-Off)

Ok so In installed one of the Apexi Filters this weekend, I have to admit it was allot smaller then in expected but it does look well made and comes with gaskets and fittings
Sadly the only issue with the knock off filter is that it doesn't bolt directly onto the N62 or any Nissan MAF, The Gasket fits but the filter bolt holes don't line up.
But with a little work it can be made to fit
