Fitting 6.5Inch mids in Doors

Post by troopiec »

Thought i would do a quick thread on how i mounted my speakers in my doors, i got a template off the NICO club forum how to make a mounting bracket, however the speaker hole position was a bit out and the mounting bolt holes aswell and but otherwise the shape was spot on.

Cost:
R40 chipboard
R5 bolts and nuts
R5 Chipboard screws
R80 Big piece of acoustic carpet
R60 GenKem contact adhesive

Its pretty easy to make aswell, just takes some time to do the adjustments and then use a Jigsaw to cut out the templates of chipboard, make sure all is well then apply glue to the chipboard and carpet, let it dry a little for about 5-10min, then stick the carpet onto the wood and press evenly, heres some pics:

Yip it clears stock covers with plenty room to spare, whole reason why i did it this route, to keep a stock look, the wood must be bolted on the inside of the door though otherwise the door panels wont even clip in.

I had about 4-5cm clearance between the magnet and window, you must just be carefull of your wiring, i had to cable tie my speaker wires a certan way to make sure it did not hook on the window when it rolled down, but with the door panel off and the window rolled down you can look down inside the door and see clearly how its all fitting so you can be 100percent sure before you close everything up. But say if you want to fit a speaker with a bigger magnet, you can even make a little wooden spacer ring to bring the speaker out a bit, because theres lots of room between the speaker and the cover on the panel. Im sure any 6.5inch mid should fit.
