R32 GTR REDONE!!!

Post by scunick »

So I bought a R32 GTR from someone on the forum and what started as a project with some minor cosmetics to resolve has turned into a nightmare rebuild.

So far we have done the following:
Replaced engine loom - loom hacked to sh1t
Replaced gearbox - both gearboxes supplied were destroyed
Replaced interior panels (centre console, dash, gear lever console, dash vents)
Replaced injectors for properly spec'ed 700cc items
Replaced coils for properly spec'ed Spitfire plasma items
Replaced clutch with HKS triple plate
Replaced brakes with R33 Brembo units

Still to do
Replace the front hubs- car was obviously drifted and smashed in the passenger front corner
Replace and repair body loom in front passenger corner
Replace and repair ABS loom
Replace ATESSA control unit - current unit fried
Install complete engine management
Replace inlet plenum (current item leaking)
Source, replace and repair aircon unit (never supplied by seller in breach of sales agreement)
Dig out the bog on the front passenger corner and respray the front clip
Source unmodified wheels. Current wheels have been widened and done badly, will fail under load.

And the list continues... Will start posting updates as we progress.

Later
Nick

Wow that really is quite a list of things that needs to be redone! I really hope you get her sorted(without spending too much).

Which management are you going to use?

Are you referring to spun bearings on the bottom end, in the diff or in the hubs?

Hard luck there Nick!

It's rather sad that thing like this happen and forces us to pay the school fees for something we are all passionate about. Best of luck with the rebuild and keep us posted on the progress of this build.

Sounds familiar, a clean R32 seems to be a scares thing these days, esp. Local ones.

Good luck

All the best to you while trying to get the car in shape. Hope it goes well. In conversation people ridicule me for using old technology ,but it just looks much neater and no need to hack. Apexi it is.

I was pushed for time when I looked at the car and given that he was a long standing member of the forum who worked for a reputable tuner I assumed that when he said... and I quote:
"Car never been in a smash while i have had it"
"Gearbox is a replacement in as new condition"
"Plenum was a GReddy"
"Management was Installed professionally"
"Diff was untouched"
he was on the up and up... I was very wrong!!!

The other stuff we have found was just simply hidden...
Dash bulbs showing the Attesa, Hicas and ABS errors removed...
Body harness cut and patched then hidden...

The seller is a true piece of work. I have 16 cars in my possession, many of them mid project and i have never ever come across such a dishonest seller.
