Project - Mary CA18
Well as the subject states... the SX we went to pick up in Upington a few months back munched through a complete set of bearings. haha.
Well we got back after the long and exhausting trip there. unloaded the car and started her up. holy hell... bearings knocking on heavens door
So we started to dissasemble the motor form the bottom up... motor still in the car though...
It did not work... so a while later we decided to pull the motor and box. lovely. second time I pull a CA out of a S13
Stripped the rest of the bottom end and checked the crank and conrods. Crank screwed and bearings screwed... conrods and pistons still fine.
Sent the crank away, but was to screwed to redo. thus the hunt was on for a new(used) crank. found one and got it redone. crank and bearings back in. motor closed and ready for install...
Took me and my buddy 6 hours to get the motor back into the damn car...
easy to take out not so easy to put back in... but I had that with the SR too. haha
Motor in, and all piping and wiring connected (or so we though) started the car and it idled crap! bugger.... rechecked everything and saw that the FPR wasn't hooked up. damn sleep deprivation...
Anyway, with that sorted the car idled fine no issues....
Had a bit of a splutter when it was hot... turned out to be a injector plug that wasn't clipping on correctly so it vibrated itself loose the whole time.
Now its running fine. boost is at 0.6 bar and goes nicely... its smoking a bit though... so not sure if its the turbo or motor itself... but ja. thats pretty much it, motor wise.
This car also has a awesome sound system in... so we set that up nicely too. Sounds good and goes good.
Next on the mod list is to loose the stock IC and get a lekker big one. also mod the exhaust and spray the rims black.
And hopefully Mary Anne wins the monstermob comp (R10k), so she has some cash to spend on the SX.
Will update with pics and a full speclist a little later.
Cheers!

arg!! don't say that!! heheheToby wrote:Nice work
But you know you still have one more time to pull a motor out of an SX, right? 'Cos only after the third time, will Murphy move on...
well yeah... we'll have to pull the motor again... cause we need to install the ACL race bearings still... and check on the crank ect again.

Thats true, but seems the turbo might be on its way out... Its a freakin GT28RS.... argh....Toby wrote:Well that's not a bad reason to pull the motor again (unlike, say having a hole through a piston )
Hopefully by anticipating Murphy's next move, we'll prevent it
