a small word of advice i learnt from fixing the exact same thing in the 1991 merc benz 260e.
we thought that everything was fine by just engineering the head and replacing the head gasket...
BUT...
there was so much crap from the busted headgasket that found its way into the sump, that after about 100km's of driving we lost oil pressure. it turned out that it was the debris that got sucked up against the oil strainer, causing low oil pressure. basically we had to drop the sump and clean out the bottom end too! i reckon if its not such a mission while the engine is in the car, just drop the sump and make sure that its clean down there too!
its not nice when its dirty down there!!!

Just an update…
If anyone cares, the car is up and running I took you advice veecee wasn’t being rude or anything I had to just drop the sump to check for water.
The head cost me R 1180 and was fully rebuild, new valves and seats, Payne gasket set, new belt and pulley, rebuilt carb
Total cost was R 2000 wish an SX was this cheap and easy to work on.

Any difference in the power, you found some of the ponies that were lost since the last rebuild, or is your butt dyno horribly skewed by the power of the SX and anything under 200kw just feels slow?
