Hi
Getting intermittent white smoke when i gear down or come to a stop. Quite a big puff of white smoke for few seconds then dissapears.
Could it be valve stem seals?

Re: White Smoke
sounds like turbo seals. valve stem is mostly apon acceleration or startup

Re: White Smoke
I need to disagree with Jason here, to my experience on vacuum(gear down, leaving in gear and leaving accelerator) = valve stem seals.
On acceleration you see white smoke, it's either turbo seals or rings. One way to determine this is to drive it hard then stop and idle it for long, if it starts smoking heavily it's normally an indication of turbo seals.
Another way to check for turbo seals is to check whether your boost pipes has oil in it = turbo seals
There is a breather washer(a thick round washer with a small hole) in the CA18DET breather pipe on the turbo side, at a stage I had the same thing, I removed this washer and my intermittent smoking was history, maybe u lucky

Re: White Smoke
Thanks for the comments/suggestions guys.
@ Draco thanks for the suggestion i will check it out.
If it is turbo seals im not going to bother repairing this old turbo.
I have 2 other problems still to sort out aswell :
(1) Leaking manifold gaskets
(2) Rear main seal leak
