Ha ha thanks Skippy!

So Saturday past, BigZ finally started up.
The problems to startup were somewhere in:
- CAS (got a 2nd modified CAS)
- timing
- map
- fuel regulation

Tuner sorted it in a day lol...

So I drove her home on Saturday afternoon.
Initially was a bit crappy cos the rear drums were a little bound, the gear lever took getting used to, clutch was crappy (I managed to let the slave cylinder tear on the rubber, didn't bleed it), and it isn't tuned yet.

Once I hit the R300, I opened a bit...... and what a feeling! Boost is really something else!

Spent the evening cruising around a bit.
Aaaaaaaaand then I blew the turbo... lol...

So tomorrow morning I'm taking the turbo off. Have to find out if it was getting oil, or if I had knocked it around while it was waiting in the garage.

Hope it's not bad!

But it's a really great feeling.
The completion of the work I started.

Bad about the turbo...

So I got lucky that the turbo went when it did.

When I checked the dipstick this morning, it was dry.
Checked twice, thrice, lol... dry...
So I had lost all that oil.

I believe it's through the turbo's seal.
I haven't found a gasket for the downpipe yet.

That was part of the button-up mission:
1: exhaust manifold gasket
2: turbo downpipe gasket
3: strengthen crossmember
4: weld in battery tray

So I see the oil running off the downpipe.
I checked the sump also. Seems fine. But will make sure.

Right.

So I get the filter off the front of the turbo.
And I play with the compressor wheel like analog buttons on a PS2...

Any advice? New turbo? Rebuild?

A rebuild will cost you a bit less or you can use this opportunity to buy a new slightly bigger turbo like a T28/T3.

I'd also advise checking the compression, the turbo seal being responsible for all the oil loss is minimal, you might need to refresh your engine.

Thanks Draco.

While I'm waiting, I'm mulling it over
T28/T3 sounds good.

Is a straight up T3 turbo too big?

I'll have the engine checked out in next week.
I should have some time on my hands.

I was quite keen on a T3.

But seeing as I may sell the bakkie (contract dependant), I'm not going to do anything else. I'm gonna keep the build as it is now. I'm having the WR280 built, and a spare T25 as well.

So once it's finished, and running again, it's going up for sale.

Fingers crossed I get the turbo back today or tomorrow.

So I decided to have the WR280 rebuilt.
I have to say I'm glad I did.

Saturday was spent rerouting boost pipes. Not much, I had to take a minute and think.
At first I kept on popping off boost pipes. But now that's sorted.

Awesome feeling getting to drive her hard now.
Boost rules!

@Hotstuff...
I'm hoping to get her up to 165-170kW, 280-300Nm...
Not sure how close I would be right now.
But if the torque hits 300+ I'll be very happy.

@Skippy...
Yep. Glad I'm keeping her.
Would be sad that she goes before I got to enjoy her.
I'm so keen on gauges!
