Most people will rate the turbo as "laggy". But my built i purposely built for high rpm, because it is also a street-able car. The car drives and sounds perfectly stock under 3000rpms. It actually has more power than a stock ca18det on low revs and it’s much more of a pleasure to drive as it doesn’t feel so lazy. Its just the clutches you need to get used to but due to my mod, it has all the bite but im able to slip it a bit which is also very pleasant compared to the crude options otherwise available.

You can hear the turbo build up pressure by 2500, @3000rpms the boost picks up as it goes into positive boost, @ 4000-4500rpms the turbo kicks in and at 5500 rpms I have full boost, my rev limiter is set at 7900-8200rpms. Ideally it should be revved to 8500rpms, but that will happen once i replace the valve springs and solid lifters for extra security. Allot of people i know including others on the net claims the ca18det to be 8500rpm save. Apperently the stock springs has the same capability as the aftermarket Sr20det BC springs.

If I may give some advice, this is my theory derived from my experience, on boost at around 1 bar or so going to higher revs should be ok, but as soon as you going to start boosting more the boost pressure plus the revs will increase possibility for valve bouncing, in 1st to 3rd it might hold but on the longer gears it will not hold to 8000rpm on high boost, my advice is to do at least the valve springs now.

Hey guys,

So i pulled the motor to see what exactly is the fault, and i found the following on piston 1 and 3....Whats your ideas?

The motor had a slight smoke to it and breathed after it came back from the dyno at a famous jhb guy...so im wondering....if its fixed up i am sure it will make more Hp than it currently made with this slight smoking problem it picked up in jhb (386whp)

Who has a block they would like to sell?.....i will measure but i think the sleeves will need a re-bore and i am already at 83.5 so fitting 84mm is not a option because that would mean that i need to get a new cometic head gasket and import pistons which would be costly as well....i guess if i cant get a block then i wont have another option but to import 84mm pistons and head gasket.

Hey guys, so here is my update with new parts.

I fitted the clear lights all round and everything is looking good. Will post pictures later

Got the new engine internals and have dropped the block off at the engineers for boring.

Also picked up an mistake we did with the build. We removed the pipes from the tapped covers and only fitted filters, i believe this creates a problem with the pressure in the crank case not being able to vent properly and thus causing excessive crank pressure and would lead to oil being pushed out on the exh side tapped cover. So i will reconnect the pipes and also fit a breather pipe in front of the turbo to see of it would remedy my issue.

Another issue i have to sort out is that my fuel pressure does not raise 1:1...hmm i think i must remove the reservoir tank i fitted and run straight pipes from the 2 internal tank pumps to the 2 Bosch 044's and then run a thick pipe to the fuel rail. That should simplify everything.

Hopefully we will break the 400whp mark at 1.2 bar this time round and press on for the 1.6 bar mark and within the 500whp region...
